Berkshire Sunset

This piece is an abstract landscape inspired by a sunset sky over an evergreen-clad ridge. The color blocks in the abstract add interest using the famed Italian Spilimbergo School technique that adds liveliness and interest by developing color mixes instead of solid colors. From a distance these blends make beautiful shadings that appeal to the eye. This efficient technique also utilized highly irregular shapes while still maintaining detectable andamento (flow), in this piece either relatively straight horizontal or vertical lines of tesserae (pieces). This method begins with developing a mix of glass pieces cut into widely varying shapes and thicknesses and then using all of them rather than cutting a shape for each position.
